French Courses
(updated 04/02/2026)

The program “Learning French through Art” supports the integration of artists in exile through learning written and spoken French, as well as understanding social and cultural codes, using an approach focused on the immediate needs of newly arrived artists and connected to current French and international cultural, social, and political events. The program is designed to align with the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) for FLE (French as a Foreign Language) — covering themes, objectives, sociolinguistics, morphosyntax, etc. — and the National Reference Framework of ANLCI (National Agency for the Fight Against Illiteracy) for literacy learners. Various artistic practices are also used to develop speaking skills (theatrical techniques) and writing skills (literature, poetry).

Learners can take an official exam (DELF B1/B2) at a center accredited by France Éducation International at the end of the program.

Training is free for artists who are members of aa-e; it is also open to the general public at affordable rates (subject to available spots).*

Classes take place at 106 rue Brancion, 75015 Paris. People with reduced mobility can attend classes remotely. The course can be relocated to the ground floor (accessible for PMR) if necessary. Please contact us by email: ecole@aa-e.org for more information.

Digital tools provide flexibility in learning. All lessons are uploaded weekly on the school’s online platform, accessible from any mobile device. This allows learners to catch up independently if they miss a class due to administrative, health, or professional reasons.

A semi-presential option can also be implemented to accommodate the specific work requirements of certain learners (tours, artist residencies, etc.).
