Director Nikita Yefimov gets unique access to a Russian maximum-security prison. To help the man with a camera, the correctional supervisor tries to control the image of his facility. Like a theater director, he stages the moments of prison life, from domino games to rap performances. Documenting peculiar relationships among prisoners, their guards, and a camera, this film explores the uneasy topic of the Russian penitentiary system with empathy and humor.
