biography

Born in 1994 in Carrefour, Haiti, Youvensky Despeignes studied at the Centre d’art in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, where he created a body of work in drawing, painting, sculpture and serigraphy alongside teachers Frantz Zephirin and PASKÖ (Pierre Pascal Merisier). In 2017, he took part in Dessin académique with Emilcar Similien (known as Simil). In 2019, he participated in the figuier maudit workshop with Sébastien Jean. In 2020, he presented La Relève, a restitutionof the work of five Art Center students. In 2023, he took part in the CDA workshop led by artist Mario Benjamin, as well as the Jacques Stephen Alexis workshop by Pascale Monnin, and exhibited at CONFLUENCE(S) at Maison Dufort. In 2024, he was invited to take up a residency at La Box, ENSA Bourges, as part of the PAUSE program (Collège de France). He is a member of the Agency of artists in exile.
