biography
Buliash Todeva, born in 1995 in Elista, Kalmykia (Russia), is a visual artist, object designer, and researcher. Her projects focus on sustainability, decolonial studies, and sociocultural and environmental justice. She works across multidisciplinary mediums, researching recycled and organic materials, digital production, and artistic reflection. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design from the Stroganov Academy of Arts and Industry in Russia, a Master’s degree in Environmental Technology and Engineering from NUST MISIS in Russia, and a DNSEP in Object Design from the École supérieure d’art et de design de Saint-Étienne. She will exhibit at the Materiauthèque of the Cité du Design in Saint-Étienne (2024) and is participating in the Dutch Design Week 2023 in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. The Museum of Applied Arts in Budapest, Hungary, is dedicating a solo exhibition to her titled In Circulation. She won the First EU TalentOn — Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities competition in 2022 and the Lexus Design Award RTC 2020. As an entrepreneur, she founded the Zerowaste.lab in Moscow to create sustainable products for businesses. She also teaches sustainable design at the British Higher School of Art & Design. Having arrived in France in 2022 due to the war in Ukraine, she is a member of the agency of artists in exile.
