biography

Born in 1998 in Lipetsk, Russia, Sonia Andrews is a visual artist. A graduate of the British Higher School of Art and Design in 2020 and the Joseph Bakshtein Institute of Contemporary Art in Moscow in 2022, she works with installation, ceramics, painting and silkscreen. Themes central to her practice include the environment, manual labor, social and political interaction, and deconstruction, chance and transformation. In the series of drawings entitled Perenne, Sonia Andrews depicts a Virginia creeper on a fence. The object of the artist’s daily observation during the spring of 2023, the plant growing on the wall is a metaphor for overcoming an obstacle and transforming it into a support for growth. Attention to the environment gives strength and hope for a new day.
