biography
Born in Russia in 1964, Liudmila Zinchenko is a multimedia artist, photographer, writer and director. She has been using the cacmera obscura since the 2000’s and has taught at the Rodchenko School of Photography and Multimedia in Moscow. Liudmila Zinchenko has taken part in numerous exhibitions, including Subjectivité Moscou at the Moscow Museum of Architecture in 2008 and at the Library of Alexandria in Egypt in 2010. In 2002 and 2006, she won the Silver Camera Grand Prix in Moscow, and in 2014, she was nominated for Best handmade Film at the International Kansk Video Festival, for her film Embroiderer, with which she participated in the Berlinale Film Festival in 2015 and 2016. In 2019, she wins the Special Jury Prize “For the search for beauty in digital noise” with the film The Wonderful Adventures of Niels, at the Spirit of Fire Film Festival in Siberia. She presents At the End of the World at the Electrozavod Gallery in Moscow. In 2022, Liudmila Zinchenko arrived in France and took part in a number of projects and exhibitions, including Le même sang in Étaules, Charente-Maritime, in 2023, and Les prémices at Les Bain du Nord gallery, the exhibition space of the Frac Bourgogne in Dijon in 2024, where she revisited the beginnings of photography and re-appropriated the processes of inventor Nicéphore Niépce. As part of the PAUSE program (Collège de France) Liudmila Zinchenko teaches photography at the École Nationale Supérieure d’Art (ENSA) in Dijon. She is a membre of the Agency of artists in exile since 2023.
