Lajaward Haqiqi was born on December 20, 1992 in Kabul, Afghanistan. She spent her early years under the Taliban regime when girls were not allowed to go to school. She learned to sew and worked as a seamstress until the age of 10, when she returned to school.
After passing the entrance exam to Kabul University of Art, she entered the graphic design department and graduated in 2011.
In 2010, she took animation courses at the Goethe Institute in Kabul where she created two short 2D animation films using paper techniques. She also works as a lead animator on the animation series of Josef and Zuleika. In 2012, she created the Afghan Center for Animation and Multimedia. In 2012, she is the winner of the best animation at the Kabul Film Festival, organized by the British Council.
She was named best animation director at the Harats Women’s Film Festival in 2015 and the Kabul Lajevard Festival in 2020.
She also received a second prize for her film Schizophrenia in 2016 at the Afghan Animation Festival. Her work has been exhibited for the New Delhi awards. She arrived in France in August 2021 and became a member of l’Atelier des artistes en exil.
