biography

Born in 1986 in Syktyvkar, Komi Republic, Russian Federation, Daria Yurishcheva is an animator. After a brief career as a financial journalist, she decided to devote herself entirely to drawing and animation.

Today, she creates independent animated films tinged with feminism and modern anti-colonialism. On February 24, 2022, Daria Yurishcheva initiated the collective project Animators Against War and mobilized 200 animators and sound engineers from different regions of the Russian Federation and other countries. She is interested in decolonization, the repressed discourses of indigenous peoples of the Russian Federation, and issues of identity. In 2018, she participated in the mobilization of filmmakers in support of Oleg Sentsov, a Ukrainian filmmaker and public figure who was sentenced to 20 years in prison after the annexation of Crimea in 2014. As such, she participates in the collective project I am Memorial, in support of Memorial, the oldest human rights organization in Russia that was closed in December 2021 by Russian courts. Daria Yurishcheva has been a member of l’Atelier des artistes en exil since November 2022.
