Born in 1994 in Kisangani, Democratic Republic of Congo, Blaise Mangitukulu is a dancer and choreographer. He was twice crowned champion of Boyoma-Art (street battle and choreography) in Danckis. Founder of the Ecoda company, and performer and choreographer for Fire Dance Company, he explores the connections between contemporary dance, urban dance, and African traditions. He was introduced to contemporary dance at the Studio Kabako in Kisangani with Faustin Linyekula and has trained and collaborated with numerous choreographers, including Anne Nguyen, Wesley Ruzibiza, Kettly Noël, Jacques Bana Yanga, Vincent Harisdo, David Ilari, Abdul Abdanger, Simon Mayer, Merlin Nyakem and Amy Miller. He participates in festivals and residencies in East Africa and Europe. He created the solo Kivuvu as part of Transition – Enter Communities of Body in Athens. He teaches dance in Bukavu and contributes to organizing the Sada Festival and the Rencontres Chorégraphiques du Grand Lac programming in the DRC. He arrived in France as part of Afrika 2020 and the Génération A festival at the Théâtre Paris Villette for the show East African Bolero by Wesley Ruzibiza & Vincent Harisdo. He won the Tobina Festival in 2023 for Briser les monstres. He is a member of the atelier des artistes en exil. He was invited to the 2024 edition of Camping at the Centre National de la Danse and performed during the Visions d’Exil 2024 festival at POUSH in On s’adapte (collective creation). In December 2024, he will present Contre la mort, contre l’oubli at the Centre Chorégraphique de Strasbourg, as part of the theme Nô Sex: Intrinsèque, Migration, Captation.
