biography
Born in 1972 in Russia, Andrey Loshak is a prominent reporter and filmmaker currently residing in Paris. A graduate of Moscow State University’s Journalism faculty, he began his career as a reporter for the NTV channel, one of Russia’s top three TV networks. His work earned multiple accolades, including the TEFI award for “Best Reporter” (2003) and the GQ Magazine “Reporter of the Year” (2005). As censorship grew in Russia, Loshak’s investigative reports were frequently suppressed, prompting his departure from state TV in 2010 to become an independent journalist and filmmaker. Loshak’s work focuses on liberal values and critiques of the Russian government. His notable documentaries include Age of Discontent (2017), which won the Grand Prize at ArtDocFest (2018), and InterNYET: A History of the Russian Internet (2019). He became a vocal critic of President Putin’s regime and was declared a “foreign agent” by Russian authorities for his outspoken stance. After fleeing Russia in 2022 due to the war in Ukraine, he released Broken Ties, a documentary on the war’s impact on Russian society, which garnered over 2 million views. Loshak’s films are widely accessible, and often released on YouTube to reach Russian-speaking audiences. His latest works, including Pentagon (2023) and Age of Discontent: 2024 (upcoming), continue to explore Russia’s complex socio-political landscape.
