biography

Yara Al Hasbani is born in 1993 in Damascus, Syria. She studied ballet and contemporary dance at the Higher Institute for Dramatic Art in Damascus. She has participated in numerous festivals (Dancing on the edge, Action for hope, Art pour la paix, Le Printemps de la dance arabe, June Events…) with performances that reflect the Syrian reality and her engagement revolting against the dictator. She created her first solo, Unstoppable, which was presented as part of the Printemps de la danse arabe in 2018. She danced in Va voir là-bas si j’y suis by Thierry Thieû Niang. She is a member of the Pierre Claver association and the agency of artists in exile. She received the FoRTE (Regional Fund for Emerging Talents) grant of the Île-de-France region, as well as the Caisse des dépôts grant of the SACD, for her first group creation Elham about the confiscation of women’s bodies, on which she is currently working.
