Born in 1983 in Moscow, Russia, Sergei Prokofiev lives and works in Paris, France. In 2011, he graduated from the contemporary art school “Free Workshops” at MMOMA, Moscow. From 2011 to 2016, he co-founded and participated in the non-profit contemporary art space “It is not here” in Moscow. In 2013, he won a competition for the creation of a light installation “New Media Night” in Nikola-Lenivets, Russia. In 2013, he graduated from the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) in Moscow. In 2014, he became a finalist in the international competition “Center – Periphery” in Italy.

From 2016 to 2020, he was a member of the Elektrozavod gallery team in Moscow. In 2021, he received second prize in the “Zverev Art Prize” in Moscow. In 2022, he received the Solo Prize at the Charlottenborg Spring Exhibition in Denmark. In 2023, he became an artist in exile due to his stance against Russia’s large-scale military invasion of Ukraine. He has participated in exhibitions in Russia, Italy, Austria, Sweden, Hungary, Poland, Norway, Denmark, Switzerland, and France, and has curated some of them. His current work includes graphic works, sculptures, installations, performances, and videos.

His works are part of private collections and the collections of the Luciano Benetton Foundation in Italy, the Sphere Foundation and the Tretyakov National Gallery in Russia, and the Uppsala Art Museum in Sweden. In 2023, he became a member of the Agency of Artists in Exile.
