biography
Born in 1981 in Bogotá, Colombia, Amari Natura has devoted her life to artistic production and creation, as well as to women’s rights, birth accompaniment, and the defense of indigenous peoples. Moving to Venezuela at the age of twelve, she took dance classes at the Instituto Universitario de Danza (IUDANZA) and singing lessons at the Instituto Universitario de Estudios Musicales (IUDEM) from 2005 to 2008. She undertook trips to Colombia, Brazil, and Ecuador, during which she produced and participated in cultural events for young people in difficulty in the favelas. She adopted an ethnographic approach in her investigations among indigenous populations and transposed their traditional dances and music into artistic performances. From 2007 onward, she was a singer for the musical group “Jahlfaomega.”
Her actions in favor of the environment and women’s rights, along with the political climate in Venezuela, forced her to seek refuge in France with her family in 2017, where she obtained political asylum. She is currently pursuing musical studies in early childhood and children with disabilities at the University of Tours. She performs alongside director Judith Depaule in the shows Je passe (Maison des Métallos in Paris), Disparu·es, and the installation Mnémonique (Avignon Festival 2022).
She founded an association dedicated to art and biodiversity in her neighborhood in Tours. She is also a volunteer for sports activities and participates in creating orchestras in schools in the city’s priority neighborhoods. She testifies as a political refugee artist at the UN, speaks on freedom of expression in middle and high schools in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines at the invitation of La Commanderie, as part of the week for persecuted, imprisoned, and prevented writers. She sings at concerts and activist evenings, as well as at festivals. She self-produces her album “Muevete” and creates her EP “Humaine sur terre,” alongside cultural associations between Paris and Tours to position herself on the current music scene. She is a recipient of the Porosus endowment fund and a member of the Agency of Artists on Exile.
