biography
Born in 2001 in Kankan, Guinea-Conakry, Karim Sylla began learning dance at age 8 on the streets. In 2014, he left his family, who opposed his practice, and arrived in Bissau in 2016. He joined the Nétos de Bandim troupe, with whom he traveled to Senegal and Portugal, then departed for Paris in 2017. He was taken in by Aide Sociale à l’Enfance.
With the Agency of Artists in Exile, he participated in the performances Va voir là-bas si j’y suis by Thierry Thieû Niang and Non, je ne prendrais pas la Méditerranée by Kevin Kimbengui, trained in hip-hop with Bouba Colors at the Académie, and performed with the Trio d’Afrique group, Cécile Loyer (Frappez fort (comme pour réveiller les morts), Villes de papier), and Judith Depaule (Disparu·es, Je passe). He leads numerous workshops and masterclasses. He is developing his own solo Buto Fantôme and a practice as a singer.
