biography

Born in 1985 in Russia, Nadia Ermakova is a photographer and video artist. A graduate of the Rodchenko Art School in Moscow and, in 2025, of the École Nationale Supérieure d’Arts de Paris-Cergy (ENSAPC), she grounds her practice in an expanded documentary approach, situated between visual research and social engagement. Her work explores the mechanisms of memory, processes of migration, family bonds, and forms of intimate and collective transmission. Through visual narratives rooted in personal experience, the artist focuses on the friction zones between belonging, displacement, and identity. Her photography turns toward the margins: interior spaces, traversed territories, everyday gestures, and minority histories. She exhibits in numerous festivals and institutions and has received several international awards for her books and photographic series. An alumna of the VII Agency mentorship program, Nadia Ermakova has been based in France since 2022 and is a member of the Agency of artists in exile. She develops collective and participatory projects, including Bright Future Project with Carbone 17 working with teenagers in Aubervilliers, and In the Shadows, a series dedicated to urban sports practices in the lead-up to the Olympic Games. Alongside her artistic work, she has been an assistant to photographers Chantal Regnault and Antoine d’Agata, members of the Magnum agency.
