biography

Born in 1960 in El-Damer, Sudan, Moneim Rahama works as a journalist, writer and poet. Truly a man of culture who takes on roles in various media outlets (radio, theater, cinema, publishing, newspapers), he is also a staunch human rights defender. His political affirmations led to an arrest in 2011 and a consequent death sentence. Released through an international support campaign, he fled to Ethiopia. Sudanese intelligence services monitored his activities afterward, which compelled him to come to France in 2015. That same year, he received the International PEN Prize for Freedom of Expression. He is a member of the agency of artists in exile and the Maison des Journalistes and participates in performances and readings, while continuing to write. He is the winner of the Camargo Foundation and the Nora Scholarship (ACCR) in 2019.
