biography

Born in 1988 in Mbujimayi, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Tickson Mbuyi is a performer and visual artist. Graduated in sculpture and ceramics from the Academy of Fine Arts of Kinshasa, he creates masks, sculptures and costumes, sign performances engaged in public space (Batela lobi na yo and Boni Santé), participates in international events (Kin’Act meetings in Kinshasa, Oops Festival in Brighton, YUP Festival in Germany and Sculpture Biennale in Ouagadougou BISO), to music videos and films (Système K by R. Baret, Faire-part by A. Reijniers, N. Saleh, P. Shemisi, R. Jacobs). Winner of the 2020 Visa for the creation of the French Institute, resident at the Cité internationale des arts, he moves to France and becomes a member of the Atelier des artistes en exil. He performs and exhibits his plastic works (MIAM, City of architecture, workshop of artists in exile, City Mirror to Cork, PAP to Guéret, Paris city center…). As part of the PAUSE programme at the Collège de France, he is welcomed at the Ecole supérieure d’art et de design in Reims and at la Fileuse. He performs at the Théâtre des Malassis, La Dynamo de Banlieues Bleues, Gaîté Lyrique and in the gardens of the Palais Royal. He is a 2021 Porosus Endowment Fund Laureate.
