biography

Born in 1988 in Mbujimayi in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Tickson Mbuyi is a performer and visual artist. A graduate in sculpture and ceramic techniques from the Academy of Fine Arts of Kinshasa, he creates masks among other sculptures, costumes (Homme capotes), does performances in the public space (Batela lobi na yo and Boni Santé), has participated in several international events (the Kin’Act meetings in Kinshasa, the Oops Festival in Brighton, the YUP Festival in Germany and the Ouagadougou BISO sculpture biennial), in videoclips and films (Système K by Renaud Baret, Faire-part by Anne Reijniers, Nizar Saleh, Paul Shemisi, Rob Jacobs). Winner of the French Institute’s Visa for creation in 2020, resident at the Cité internationale des arts, he chose to settle in France and become a member of the agency of artists in exile.
