biography

Born in 1988 in the Russian village of Barysh, Marina Antonova is a self-taught painter. As a teenager, she ran away from home and hitchhiked to Moscow. Determined and self-taught, she painted quickly and extensively. Often populated by animals, her works give power back to vulnerable beings. In 2020, she exhibited at Red October and took part in a residency at the Garage Museum in Moscow. Since the start of the war in Ukraine, Antonova has led several anti-war actions in public spaces. Feeling threatened, she moved to France in 2022. She took part in the “Dis la guerre” exhibition at Les Récollets and became a member of the Artists in Exile workshop.
