biography

Born in 1989 in Guinea, Mohamed Lamine alias Black Pepa grew up to the sound of music in the earthy streets of Conakry. Attentive to what surrounds him, curious about the world and how it works, he finds in the power of words the possibility to express his ideas. Black Pepa began composing in 2007, while he was a university student. He recorded his first sounds in 2010 which led him to participate in the creation of a university compilation in 2012. Thereafter he chose the public space of Conakry as a privileged stage so that his words could reach the largest possible audience. His political commitment forced him to leave the country in 2017. From the Sahel to France, his journey was peppered with encounters that feed his poetry. During the 2022 edition of the Babelsunciades, he rapped in duet with Lao$enpai in the streets of the Marseilles district of Belsunce. He has been a member of l’Atelier des artistes en exil since February 2022.
