biography

Born in 1982 in Hong Kong, Lok Kan Cheung is a performer. She studied at the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts, the École Internationale de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq and the École de Théâtre Philippe Gaulier in Paris. She practices dance, theatre and puppetry. She has taken part in puppet and theatre shows in Hong Kong and abroad, notably in The Brides Reloaded (theatre) in Spain, Winter in Sweetyland (puppets) in Hong Kong and C’quoi C’cirque at the Théâtre de Verre in Paris. Artistic director of Ash Theater in Hong Kong and associate artist of the David Glass Ensemble, she teaches theatre and puppetry. An active activist in the Hong Kong protest movement, she took refuge in France in 2020 and became a member of the agency of artists in exile. A laureate of the Collège de France’s Pause programme, she has been in residence at the École supérieure d’Art Annecy Alpes since September 2022.
