biography
Born in 1986 in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, and of Burkinabe nationality, Azata Soro is an actress, scriptwriter and filmmaker. She wrote and directed Waffo, the snake child, a short film selected at the FESPACO 2019 (Burkina Faso), LUXOR festival 2020 (Egypt), Cabaret du film 2020 (Cameroun), XVI KMFMC 2020 (Russia), and won de jury award at the REBIAP 2019 (Benin). In 2020, she directed her second short film, Cindy Keita. At the FESPACO 2020 she launched the African #MeToo by revealing the assault she suffered by the director Ouedraogo Tahirou, who lacerated her cheek during a shooting. After her testimony, she took refuge in France and launched the movement MEME PAS PEUR (NOT EVEN AFRAID in english) against harassement and for women’s freedom of speech. She is a member of the agency of artists in exile.
