biography

Born in 1992 in Sanaa, Yemen, Ahlam Jarban has a degree in geology and currently studies at the Beaux-Arts of Paris. She does painting, street art (textile creations, graffiti), sculptures (made out of metal and resine) and digital art. She was the first female graffiti artist in Yemen and did many political graffitis in Sanaa since 2010. She suffered during the war in her country, as well as the difficulties of being a woman, affected by racism because of her Somalian and Ethiopian origins, in a narrow-minded, patriarchal and ethnocentric society. All of that made her leave the country. She arrived, through Jordan, in France in 2018 and joined the agency of artists in exile. She exhibited during the festival Visions d’exil 2019, at the Cité internationale des arts – Site de Montmartre, made a graffiti on the wall of the Pavillon Carré de Baudouin for the exhibition From one confinement to another of the festival Visions d’exil 2020 in collaboration with Art Azoï. She continues to do street art in many places in Paris.
