Born in 1973 in Iran, Maryam Sadat Mirza Aghaei, known as Maryam Aghaee, is a visual artist, performer and costume designer. As a child, she showed a keen interest in painting. After studying environmental health, she obtained a degree in painting from Tehran University of Art and Architecture. She had her first solo exhibition in 2002 at the Atbin Gallery in Teheran. She then lived in Turkey for three years, where she held solo exhibitions combining painting, installations and performances. Returning to Iran in 2009, she began designing conceptual clothing and costumes for theater and film. Her work questions the role of women and societal issues. She teaches fashion design and painting to underprivileged girls in Tehran as part of her activist approach. In 2020, she specialized in NFT, taking part in virtual exhibitions and selling a large number of works. She teaches NFT. She is a member of the agency of artists in exile.
