Born in 1957 in Quneitra, Syria, Samih Chouker graduated from the Ukrainian National Conservatory of Kiev, and started his career as a singer-songwriter in 1982. To date, he has produced 10 albums and has performed in concerts around the world, most notably at Arab and international festivals. He composes for theater, cinema and television, while writing poetry as a balancing practice. Because he is a defender of human rights, he left Syria in 2010 to escape the censorship imposed by the regime and chose to settle in France to express himself freely.
