Born in 1982 in Tehran, Iran, Maral Bolouri has a Masters’s degree in contemporary art and design from Malaysia and a degree in painting from Iran. First re-establishing themselves in Kenya in 2012 and then in France in 2018, Bolouri’s practice explores gender and identity politics. They prefer non-gender-conforming articles ‘they, their, them’. Their works are in the permanent collections of the World Bank in Washington, DC, Absa in South Africa. They are the overall winner of Absa L’atelier Competition 2017. A previous resident at the Cité Internationale des Arts, they have exhibited at the second and third edition of Visions of Exile Festival in Montmartre. She is a member of the agency of artists in exile.
